A quick guide to when you can change your plan, and what counts as a qualifying life event.

This is the annual window, usually November 1 through January 15, when you can apply for, renew, or change your plan.
During this time, you can:
Switch to a new plan
Add or remove family members
Apply for coverage for the first time
Renew your existing plan
Compare options and costs

Major life changes open a 60-day window for you to adjust your plan.
Qualifying Life Events include:
Getting married or divorced
Having or adopting a baby
Moving to a new coverage area
Losing other health coverage
Gaining citizenship or lawful presence
If it's not Open Enrollment or you haven't had a Qualifying Life Event, use this time to review your plan and get ready for the next window.
Make the most of this time:
Review your current plan and usage
Compare options for next enrollment
Gather any needed documentation
Plan for upcoming healthcare needs

Keep proof of your life event handy, it helps your new coverage start faster.
Examples: marriage certificate, birth certificate, proof of address, or previous coverage termination letter.

You can switch your plan once a year during Open Enrollment or after a major life event through Special Enrollment.
